SARO General Membership Meeting 5/1 Location UPDATE

SARO General Membership Meeting 5/1/2015 Location UPDATE

Well I goofed the last e-mail up good or is it BAD.  The April Meeting will be at the American Legion Post #592 at 1948 Austin Hwy.  This is the old Astro bowl building behind the Fire Station.  There is only one way in and out but plenty of parking. The entrance is between AllState Insurance and the Fire Station.

This location is NOT what I previously reported.  I apologize for my mistake.

The VFW Post will have a meal, not sure if it will be steak or not before and an open bar.  The Meal starts at 5:30 until 7:00 if anyone is interested.

SARO’s Quarterly General Membership Meeting is this Friday May 1st at 7:30 P.M.

April Quarterly Meeting – Changed to May 1st

I would like to invite everyone to SARO’s Next Quarterly General Membership Meeting.  Please note because of Fiesta the meeting will be held on Friday May 1, 2015.

The April General Membership meeting will actually be held on Friday May 1.  Yes I know the April meeting in May? Should I call this the May meeting?  I confuse my self sometimes.  Anyway the meeting will be held at Beethoven Hall Located at 422 Pereida St., San Antonio, Texas 78210.  This is in the King William neighborhood, between S. Alamo St./Adams St. and Mission St. There are no other scheduled events Friday night so parking will not be a problem, and it is Free. But PLEASE be sure to park in the Beethoven Parking Lot.  One other item to note is all the road construction around Beethoven is complete and the streets are in great shape.   The meeting will start at 7:30 P.M.

QUARTERLY MEMERSHIP MEETING

Our quarterly membership meeting will be this Friday, October 24, 2014.  We will hold our meeting at the Beethoven Maennerchor.  The address is 422 Pereida, but the building is right as Pereida and South Alamo come together.  Do NOT park in the open lot directly across from Beethoven.  This lot belongs to the Liberty Bar, and you may be towed.  Right next to this lot, off of Pereida, is a lot with a chain link fence.  You may park here, or on the street as allowed.  If you need special help, give me a call and we will see what we can do.  (380-6560)

You may recall Olson Electronics, and this building is now part of the Beethoven property.  They have been working to restore it and a tour could be arranged if there is interest.

We have many things to discuss, so I hope to see you there!

PS – Beer, wine, and soft drinks will be available at the bar.  As far as I know, no food will be served that night.

Silent Key – KF5ARJ

Albert Lee DeMeulle, 68, went to be with our Lord Jesus on September 17, 2014. Or in Ham Radio languate, KF5ARJ has gone Silent Key.

After his retirement, the two main things that kept him busy were Amateur Radio and being a volunteer on the USS Lexington.   Albert was a Volunteer Examiner, administering licensing exams to potential ham radio operators. He was a Board of Directors member of South Texas Amateur Radio Club (STARC) and a member of the Coastal Bend Amateur Radio Club (C-BARC). He was an Elmer (mentor) to anyone interested in ham radio. He spent numerous hours on the Lexington working in the radio room, teaching amateur radio merit badge courses to Boy Scouts.

(Excerpted from a post on the Coleto Creek Amateur Radio Club facebook page. I didn’t not know Albert, but he sounds like a really great guy, and an asset to our hobby. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Kathy.)

The board voted to move the box from the downtown post office so that it will be easier for us the get the mail.  No parking issues! The old box is being maintained in tandem for a period of time so that we can be sure that everyone necessary is notified.  Please pass this new address on to EVERYONE!

SILENT KEY

David Floyd, WD5IEH passed on Wednesday, September 3, 2014.  He was a big part of the Lodestar Link system (previously called the WD5IEH link system) that linked repeaters in a large area of south Texas. Note: this system made voice communications possible for the Texas Water Safari.

He has done a lot for the hams in our area and will be missed.  Please keep David’s family in your thoughts and prayers.
