Membership

Membership in SARO is available to all licensed Amateur Radio Operators. You must supply a photo copy of your amateur license, complete the application form and deliver or mail the completed form with a check for the appropriate amount for dues. Annual dues are $15 per member, no provision for family members or non-hams currently exists in our bylaws. There is a one time initiation fee of $10, which is waived for "transient members", i.e. those hams who for some reason know they will only be in San Antonio for twelve (12) months or less, but still desire to be a registered member of our club.

We have three types of membership, "Full Member", "Honorary Life Member" and "Transient Member". Life Members pay no dues on an annual basis, and are elected by a majority vote of the membership at a membership meeting as a recognition of that Ham's outstanding contribution / service to Amateur Radio Service. If you have more than one Amateur in your family, sorry, you have to pay full dues for each of those you wish to be registered members.

Your dues go to support the cost of maintaining our various repeaters, the comm van's insurance and maintenance, plus mailing materials to you, such as your membership card, the annual printed roster, the quarterly Bulletin newsletter and other stuff like that. The Bulletin is also available on this website, but the current practice is to mail copies to every registered member via bulk mail prior to our quarterly meeting.

We meet on the fourth Friday in January, April, July and October. See link for Directions to get directions and a map to our regular meeting location. Many of the members frequently go to a local restaurant over on Broadway to have dinner after the meeting and all members or visitors are invited to join us. An announcement is always made toward the end of the meeting regarding the location of the night's dinner.
